Hi Aaron, I also just wanted to say thanks for your article on Zach. I know that considering most of us here, it would be largely preaching to the converted but I know because you use mainstream culture, you're probably also reaching people that most work like this wouldn't reach. Yes, I'm sure it upsets lots of people, but when people write in to you about that it can actually annoy me because I think that it takes focus away from the fact that you also would be really changing and affecting people as well. Those angry people are just louder is all! I think that's more important, and I can't think of anyone else out there writing about issues like sexism and homophobia in such a confronting and powerful way, as so many of your letters are testament to. So thanks for what you do, every time I come here to see the site hacked again, I worry that this time it's the end of the road! But you soldier on! Infact, I suspect that it makes you more determined (you just seem that sort of guy!). So another great big pile of kudos for you from me! *tips hat* Robert Thanks Robert, Actually, as far as the "converted" go, I think that sometimes even "we" need to stop and remember the emotional realities that lie beneath these "causes" and ideologies. We can get so wrapped up in the fighting, we can begin to take the realities for granted. So, I reconcile the two audiences, in that way, and hope that both take something from it.
And you're quite right about the angry people, they are very loud. And I think that's something about cyberspace, actually, because there's an impression dictated by a dominant audience who make their voices known, and this can tend to be based more on negativity. That isn't the case at this website, actually (the amount of abuse I have received has all but came to a halt on here - quite unlike Eye On Big Brother), and I'm happy for that - not because it means I don't have to put up with it, but because I think it's so much more productive not to be a space about that negativity. It tends to usurp everything, and that's why I dislike it so much. Anyway, thanks for your kind words - much appreciated, as always, Aaron
