Hi Aaron,

I've been a big fan of your writing for a long while. I live near Armidale, and spend most of my time at home with my two young children. This means that I don't get much time to go out and go to the movies very much and so dvds, tv, and the internet are basicaly how I take things in. I'll stay away from the Bob Dylan movie but I wouldn't be seeing it til it was on dvd anyway! But I recently watched Jesus Camp which you reviewed some time ago. I ended up finding it online and ordered a copy. It was the first time I've ever really watched a documentary like that and found it really interesting. I feel partly bad because I realise that I never used to give much time to what's going on out there in the world around me. politics, and all the social problems you often discuss were never really something I considered. Also my husband likes very typical male movies that are more about entertainment, and this is what I'm usually watching unfortunately! If it wasn't for your site, I would never have heard about this film, but I'm sure there are more films out there that are just as fascinating, but the other mums I talk to mostly here where we live aren't really the kind of people who watrch these things, if you know what I mean! So I was wondering if you could please spare a thought for those of us who are not as connected to these things as you are, and possibly let us know of some other things we might enjoy?

Keep up the good work, you do a great thing here at your site and your mind is truly unique!

Yours sincerely,
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Well, that's lovely of you! And I must say, I feel really happy when my site, in any way, leads to someone discovering something that stimulates them or opens their eyes up. I have no qualms, whatsoever, in steering you to other people's work. There are a lot of very talented people out there, making some wonderful stuff, and I do constantly try to write about them, so that it's not just critical slaughtering of rubbish pop culture, here at PPBP. So, I've found your letter a wonderful reminder of this, and have decided to write a little DVD review section of some wonderful docos that have recently been released commercially, here in Australia. It's been a really bad year for fiction, I think, but it's been one of the best couple of years for documentaries - a genre that is gaining ground, admittedly, but still needs all the plugs it can get. Keep an eye out for this, and I hope you enjoy them. I'll add links to online purchasing, in case your video store isn't sticking them, but you'd be surprised what you'd find in your video store, if only you asked! Especially the big ones, because they tend to be sent so much stuff, whether it suits the demogrpahic of the area or not. So do check, first! But, otherwise, if you are interested in any, I will steer you to an online dvd store that is stocking these titles.

Thanks so much,
Aaron
