Idol - 2008/08/25 01:15 Just a quick note to say that Eyedol is back as a separate category, as of tomorrow.
Thoughts on tonight's premiere?

Re:Idol - 2008/08/25 02:11 Hey Aaron.
Yes, I waited with baited breath (as did all of us) for the premiere of Idol...and good lord we were going to tune in to support "the fat girl" from the ad!
But now we need to wait for the promised Tuesday episode that supposedly marks her debut!
I kept waiting for the "hawt" Token Vote-for-him tenybopper hearthrob they would soon be shoving down our throats, ala Dean Guyer, Matt Corby, etc...but I'm not sure we saw him yet (or whether the show has cast that role just yet), unless we count that 'lucky last' guy in the jeans and black jumper who was left until the very end to sing. I'm actually dreading the emergence of this year's prized pig being made "known" to the audience...and that moment will come.
There's a lot to process and comment on, but right now something sticks out to me. The young girl that was rejected was indeed the immature little bitch...but surely it didn't escape people's attention the way Kyle's subtle words kept wedging the knife in. Marcia was also catty with her rhetoric, "what part of that didn't you understand?", which I really felt wasn't necessary to be said.
And "the indian girl". I trhought she was okay. WTF was wrong with her? She wasn't selected...but they let in the girl after her. At first, we were told that she needed some training, which was taken to mean "come back next year after you've finessed your voice a little more, because you have potential, but right now we don't think you're ready". However, we were instead treated to Ricki-Lee being shown to train/mentor the girl...and then she had a second attempt to sing for the judges! Hypocrisy! where were the second chances for the other contestants?
...either that or I misinterpreted the whole thing? :

Re:Idol - 2008/08/25 04:17 I was so excited to be preparing my tax return paperwork that I forgot all about the premiere...
I did however have a quick browse through the Behind Idol website (from the Behind Big Brother crowd). Apparently this year there will be two phases to the voting system for extra money-grabbing fun. In addition to the weekly voting, viewers will be able to vote to save contestants from the bottom three in the eviction..sorry, elimination shows, in a kind of sing-off showdown. So You Think You Can Dance, anyone?
I think Kate Miller-Heidke sums it up pretty well. For those who haven't had the pleasure:

Yeah, that was scripted, because they are casting Ricki's "role" as the mentor, etc, who has "been through it herself and understands", bla, bla, bla. I watched all the promotional material and they have given her tonnes of copy about how she is that character. Marcia has been given a harsher script and Ricki is now the soft feminine element.

Re:Idol - 2008/08/26 12:17 Its all so very very Yawn. Once again I am grateful we stopped doing the Podcasts. Frankly it just made me angry the last few seasons.
Even the guy claiming to be the deep and dark songwriter looked like he would fit in just fine on Triple M's playlist.Come scream obscene things at me http://thesubjectsofinterest.blogspot.com/

Re:Idol - 2008/08/26 15:26 It is very yawn, isn't it? I decided to wait, to see a couple more audition shows, before I wrote something, because there was so little to say.
