Re:So You Think You Can Dance? - 2008/02/21 16:43
I loved the American version of this show! A group of us would get together and watch it every Sunday to the exclusion of work, study etc. The combination of my favourite past times of dancing and reality TV was too much to resist. And we planned to do the same for the Australian one but its just not as exciting.

But I'm giving the show a couple more weeks before I declare it a dud (i'll still watch it either way). I'm hoping they'll fix up a few things over the next few weeks that they realise don't work. I agree with BillyXtra that the judges just seemed to tell all the contestants they were wonderful (except judge, Jason - but even then it was still suffixed with "but it was excellent anyway"). I'm hoping that this is more of an 'easing the contestants into it' kinda of thing or a effort to convince us that Australian dancers are as good as American ones. either way it should stop this week.

And hopefully Nat knows what she's doing now and can step it up as a host. I think she tries to interact with the audience too much. If someone yells something out to her she'll stop whatever she's doing to answer them. Why?! Get on with hosting! Also I hope they change the scripting for the elimination night. All that "you'll find out in just a moment" thing shits me to tears.

I'm a fan of Jack and Demi. I also like Rhys and Gemma - that waltz was awesome!

EDIT: and i forgot the music/costume/dance-style clashes. HORRIBLE! that is all.

Is it just me or is two hours total overkill? I enjoyed the trashiness of it for the first hour last night, but it went on and on and on and on, and by the end I kinda wanted to get the hell outta there!

And what's with making the aboriginal guy a thief last week, and now a criminal this week?

OK I'm sick of working so I thought I'd make a prediction instead.

Bottom 3 - Stephanie and Marko, Henry and Vanessa, and um.... Sermsah and Camilla

and Stephanie and Sermsah will go.

(BTW is this set up the same as the US version> - where the judges get the last say? That sucks. Removes even any pretence of an audience vote, really, dunnit?)

I love the way Natalie says even the simplest of lines like "Coming up after the break" as if she's in a porno. Go the sleepy eyelids.

I feel so strongly about this, I finally took the plunge and signed up to post!

This week, yet again he was cast as a criminal and was even running away from police sirens. If it was once, or even twice but spread apart, but this is just ridiculous. Many young indigenous men in this country who are caught in a life of crime often talk of how they feel there's no real choice in this society because it is already decided they are criminals anyway. We finally have a positive role model on a big TV show, and what do they do? It just plays into public perceptions we need to get away from. It's unnecessary, I don't understand what they think they get out of it.
