Hi All,

Long time. No chat.

On the topic of doco DVD's I highly recommend the following.

1. OUTFOXED - An in depth look at Fox News in America, with tips from insiders and former employees how they manipulate and influence the viewing public, and exposing the hypocrisy behind their "fair and balanced" slogan.

2. THE CORPORATION - A look at how corpoartions over 150 years have gone from insignificant entity to today being ever present in our daily lives. As the back cover says ... "like the Church, the Monarchy and the Communist Party in other times and places, the Corporation is todays dominant institution."

3. MANUFACTURING CONSENT : Noam Chomsky and the Media - Explores the political life and ideologies of one of the worlds smartest men (in my opinion). A really, really intelligent guy who sadly I knew nothing about. I've watched this several times, and let me warm you this mind-filling stuff. Riveting. Thought provoking. Juts dont be stoned while watching, it'll never sink in.

4. RIDING IN VANS WITH BOYS - If you like guitars, punk (and by punk i mean Blink 182/Green Day), festival gigs, and fancy yourself as a future band-member whose 'gonna make it', you could do no worse than Kut U Up. 4 friends from California, who through their association with Blink 182, score a spot on tour for the first time (a 2 month tour slot with the afore-mentioned bands and Jimmy Eat World). A fly-on-the-wall doco, Kut U Up almost self-destruct 5 days in, and tour roadies start making bets on whether they'll reach the end, as they stumble, drink and fight their way through their first ever tour. Funny, and sad as the boys realise all good things must come to an end !

Enjoy.

I second The Corporation, what a great film, one of the must-see docos of the past six years, really. But I like all those docos, except for the boys in the van one, but I'm not into punk. Not that this makes a difference, sometimes, I adored the Metallica doco, and mostly loathe Metallica.

Just wanted to pop on and let everyone know that Four Corner's special, Howard's End, has been offered as a full download on their website at http://www.abc.net.au/4corners/content/2007/s2162492.htm

This was a wonderful story, and features some really amazing, candid interviews - I hope everyone who voted for John Howard watches it

Once you get to that page, on the top right corner, are two options for "video download", and you choose either the flash or windows link (depending on your system - if you've got a mac, probably Flash, and if you're windows user, choose Windows Media).

I've just finished watching Howard's End.

The main idea I got from that is, how could you be a Liberal in today's political atmosphere. You're going to cop a flogging. Reality backs me on this. The most senior Liberal politician currently in power, is a local council Mayor in Queensland.

The mood of the time is about being green, sustainability and all that.

The Labor party has a track record of supporting the collective good through it's involvement with trade unions.

Trade unions are essentially about protecting the working evironment, protecting the worker from exploitation.

...but Trade unions, once they've taken care of their own, look outside their organisation to see who they can help.

They've used their influence and used their strength to support other causes, for example green bans, women's rights , Anti Vietnam campaigns and Aboriginal land rights.

In more recent history, it was the Hawke Labor government that stepped in and stopped the Franklin river in Tasmania being damned (pun intended).

So is it any wonder the Howard Liberal government got rolled.

Howard's End was great.

Sorry to chime in late with this Aaron, but I've only just come back after a bit and am catching up! But just wanted to say that I read your suggestions on the docos, and could only find Deliver Us From Evil. I found this at Sanity of all places for $14.99! So I took the plunge and just watched it then. You're right, what a great film, everyone should see this film. I'd heard a bit about it, but I didn't realise it was an investigative piece into the corruption of the Catholic Church, I thought it was just about pedafilia (did I spell that right? Probably not!). Amazing film, every Catholic should be forced by law to watch it! Thanks for the recomendations, I hope you continue to write articles like that, I'm one of the people who don't get out enough to know about these things otherwise! Cheers...
