I've never had a problem getting through to them (as in waiting a long time). What number did you call?
From the vodafone website (the fine print ):
For Prepay Caps, credit which is not used by end of the 30 day expiry period, before your next recharge or when you terminate your agreement with Vodafone, is forfeited. If you choose to Autopay, a 1 month expiry period will apply.
Would have been a lot quicker just to jump on the website to find that out lol, it only took me a couple of minutes to find it. Btw, did you know that if you keep switching between $30 (or $20 or whatever, not a cap) and $49 (or any other cap plan) you get to keep the vodafone to vodafone minutes rather than them vanishing once you recharge for the 2nd time in a row with one of the caps... handy if you have a few people you know on vodafone but don't want to waste too much credit on calling them lol.
ETA: Also did you know that if you register with My Vodafone, when you have no credit on your phone you can send txt messages from the website (so it looks like it came from your phone number anyway). Unfortunately it's been changed to have a limit of 10 per day or something like that now, but it's came in handy for me many times.
