Celebrities above the law? - 2006/12/19 01:04
Okay so Robbie Williams lights up a cigarette at his concert in Brisbane in front of thousands of people and numerous large non-smoking signs. Terrible, i know. But it gets worse! Peter Beattie pays the fine for him!

His reasoning is that Robbie is a guest in Queensland and he doesn't want Queensland to be labelled a "stick in the mud"...

Here's the link to an article on it -

Beattie doesn't want Queensland to be labelled a stick in the mud, but is happy to see it labelled a place where indigenous people get no justice (see Palm Island).

As for Robbie Williams - that's just so pathetic that Beattie would pay (and admit it!). I don't care if Robbie Williams has sex with a goat on stage - that's entertainment! etc. As for popstars being role models - jeez if they're the designated moral righteousness officers, music just got a whole lot more boring.

PS. cheers Nicknak

I don't think popstars like Robbie are trying to be role models or (in Robbie's case) want to be role models. But if they're gonna be in the limelight it's not really their choice is it? It's subjectivity (thanks Aaron ). They may not see themselves as role models, but a lot of people see them as such. Of course we're advised by friends, family and sometimes the popstar themselves that perhaps this person isn't a good role model. But really, people believe what they like.

Oh and of course there's the stars who actively try to be role models and perhaps shouldn't.
