Like I said in the chatroom:

I predict that one of the main headlines in 2016 will be "Thorpie's Heroin and Hooker Hell".

Honestly, who wants to place a bet?!

Well I heard that he wants an acting career. Oh and also, he met someone. but he won't mention a name or, it seems, a gender...

But as you say, who cares? If I was him I'd be sitting pretty on my mountains and mountains of cash.

I imagine he has done all he has to achieve in swimming, so why not retire. It also seemed as if he was getting bored with it aswell, so maybe it was time for him to move on anyway.

I guess that he might also have had enough of being cut down (the good ol' tall poppy syndrome).

He has been a great presence in swimming and will be missed I'm sure, but if his passion for the sport has gone then it's time for him to do something else.

He's been swimming since he was a little kid, so maybe he just wants a different life.

I remember reading an article a few years ago about Thorpie. He spoke about the idea that everyone has talents and gifts it's just that he was especially lucky because he was aware what his was (swimming) and therefore could harness it. I thoguht this was surprisingly mature of him and also showed humility. Since then, I have cared to read articles and watch him swim.

How lucky is he at 24 to move on to the next phase, so young, so much potential and the means to do it with.
