So has anyone here seen the film? For those who missed it (I'll put up the audio file soon), I was discussing the controversy surrounding the film's references to retardation and the idea of a white actor playing an African American. I think the film has been completely taken out of context - largely because of its mass-consumption by the mainstream.

But the film itself is actually wonderful! Anyone who likes South Park will really enjoy it - as well as any film buffs (because the whole thing is ultimately a satire of Hollywood). This is one blockbuster I really liked - I think it's a much smarter film than it's being taken as.

I saw Tropic Thunder on Tuesday night. I think the film as a satire is pretty decent. The message I took away was really about the place (or lack thereof) of realism in Hollywood, such as when Downey Jnr. exclaims "you never go full retarded!". I think it is an exploration of the idea that mainstream audiences don't appreciate films grounded in reality. I think it would also pay to remember that Downey Jnr. is a white American actor playing a white Australian actor playing an African American actor (who, under his wig and black contact lenses...has bleached hair and blue contact lenses).

I'll try to think of something more to add later when my brain is done with fitting exclaimation marks onto SALE!!!!11111111 signs.

Aaron I was worried you were going to hate this film, and I missed your radio review, so I'm glad I can now confess my love for it!!

Everyone must see it! It's the funniest film of the year.

But yes, we agree on this, it's an extremely funny film.

Oh good I love South Park i'd better get around to seeing this. An intelligent parody is sadly a rarity in films this days.

The funny thing is, morons on sites like IMDB actually go and see absolute trash like Disaster Movie, fully knowning it's going to be horried, and then complain about wasting their 15 dollars!

Not that IMDB is all morons though. Good place for discussion I find..you just gotta have the troll alert on very high.
