OK I think I will give it a miss. I guess its not my kind of music. I will stick yo listening to my show music on CD. Whenever they say a contestant is brilliant I scratch my head confused. The only time I have been really impressed by a contestant was young Anthony Callea and predictably it was The Prayer.
Last year they were pretty dreadful apart from Tarasai who was assasinated.
I see a real bias against musical theatre so its obviously a pretty much teent bopper show.
I still think it will go the way of Big Brother... more dramas, more shock and shlock and public gets bored.
I have not noticed any great talent so far.
I liked the young cow boy who got booted but that was only because he was cute.

Well, yeah. But she is, at least, someone with an interesting voice - I do genuinely think she has the most textured charismatic voice - the only one in the comp, really. But, yeah... what you said as well!

And peter, your comments are really interesting - I love when someone can offer a different perspective but perhaps arrive at the same place. I don't like showtunes, personally, I'm looking for more alternative music. But we both end up hating the show, coming from antithetical mindsets!

I think this year looks like the most homogeneous, by far - the most mainstream, ever, in fact - and the youngest. That actually has a lot to do with the audience they have left, it's exactly the same thing as we saw in Big Brother. Once those crowds start tuning out, they're left having to cater a show to the demo that is left, which will always be the mainstream bogan crowds. So the content reflects it - a catch 22 for these shows, because in trying to reflect it, they then lose every last drop of the rest of that other audience they once had as well. So BB ended up all the young tragics, and now this is really just a karaoke competition with weak imitations of mundane pop.

This time they've really lost me. I know that we're all supposed to have a soft spot for the nice new dad who represents the wholesome Aussie family guy, but I just don't. I don't want to watch the judges and producers bleed every bit of individuality and vitality out of these people, so I think I'll just turn off. I'll still read this forum though, in the same way that I read Eye on Big Brother long after I actually tuned into the show.
Hey, there's actually a real sense of freedom in breaking away from this soul-sucking ego-massage for Kyle Sandilands! Hours of sweet time have just been given back to me!

Aoron! I am one of your biggest fans but saying you dont like show tunes? Dont worry I guess I am a real loner here. Give me Ethel, Mary Martin, Bernadette Peters any day!
As I said I have given up on Idol as the last girl that sang tonight was awful but wjhen I heard the applase, the judges I decided I KNOW NUTHEN!
By the way Ricki Lee is looking as though she has been doing it for years... love to see her in a revival of The Music Man. Sorry darlings but show music to me is the ONLY music. I must admit though I like a good bonk to the 1812.
Ricki is great but do we need that frightfully dull james bloke. The blonde guy is kind of cute so its nice to have eye candy.
Any one know what the obvious little in jokes with guest artist Axel was all about.
Woops what a long post.
Aaron please change your mind about show tunes.Channing can change your life!!

What were the judges *thinking? This just gets worse and worse.

Petersj, Axle got his penis out at the ARIAs, setting himself up for lots of "exposure" jokes.

I think the two proper hosts do well together.. they seem to subtly take the mickey out of the show which I sure appreciate! Shreiki Lee, however, should just get off my screen.

Towards the beginning of the show, it sounded like Marcia was improvising her script...I think even she is starting to get tired of the usual crap (i.e. her script) they're giving her. But it came across as disjointed and space-cadety...it happened last week too and I thought of Paula Abdul. Last night Marcia was going on and on about this rich bloke she knows is a diamond cutter(?)..."and that's what we have up there!" (the contestants are diamonds? I thought they were the dropkicks who got rejected for six years and then finally let in?) But I could be wrong. LOL.
