the problem with zac - 2008/08/06 17:10
At the risk of being accused of Big Brother withdrawl I am reflecting on Zac. After reading Aaron's article I have to say I agree with ,most of what he said.
Zac was a pleasant young man and he is perhaps who he comes across as. I liked his charm but that was as far as it went. I am not going to attack a fellow gay guy.
Well not too much I hope.
The year intruder Zac came into the Big Brother house the show lifted. At last a really fun personality and you could not help to warm to him. He was harmless, simple, kind and funny. I think his popularity was due to the fact that it was the year of the most boring house mates. I think the show was terrible that year. THe hms were ghastly. Dull rich boguns! Cloying wannabees.THe voting system lynched it yet again, there were a few interesting ones early on but like Nobbi in the final series they got the boot pretty clearly and quickly. Due mostly to the BB producers, a popular eviction was believed good for ratings. Create a villain or lovable eccentric trough clever editing.
Zac was the most popular intruder ever on the show and although it was clear they were not going to let him win they were determined to keep him on the show.
Even Zac thought he had won but it was very clear the girl no one remembers was destined to win and she did!
As a gay guy I did not like Zac and it saddens me to say it. I guess I was hoping for another Farmer Dave.
Zac was popular with many gays. These were the trendy gays. The guys who loved rollex watches, image and party, party, party. The guys not interested in politics, gay literature, history or fighting for human rights. I was disgusted with Zac, he was more inyterested in Paris Hilton than anything else. He celebbrated celebrity and status. Zac was the harmless gay, the guy girls could talk safely to. The fun hair dresser. The gay guy every rich woman should have! He loved corn and corsets.
He was the gay straights can tolerate.
THen there was Dave. I think the most impressive, flawed like all of us but the most interesting person on this show.
He was as always the victim of clever editing, there was no way they would let a fag win! Dave had an enormous fan vase. The gays with a concscience loved him but the party boys hated him. THere was a campaign by the rollex queens to get Dave out. How dare he talk politivcs... we dont want him speaking for us. They were apathetic queens who believed in never rocking the boat.
Dave upset some gays but this one loved him.
He had the audacity to speak politics. Dave was far from being the stereotype. Hot.sexy model but incredibly blokey. Fine gay values but shock horrror not a leftie but a national party voter.Well thats not that odd. The Labor party has never (exception Don Dunstan) much for us. The Liberals are alkways at mardi gras, midsummer, it was the libs who got laws passed in Vic and Ted Ballieu is more sympathetic than his Labor counterpart.Dave was proudly or naively NATIONAL. He was amazingly interesting.
I could say more but Dave was special, Zac sadly a pop product.
